Shabbona Silica Co., Div., Owens-Illinois operated a Wedron mine.
Martin Marietta's Oregon mine was operated by its Manley Sand Co. division.

It should be noted that CBQ 182544, a covered hopper which suffered a broken journal and caused the TP&W derailment at Crescent City, Illinois on June 21, 1970, was loaded at the Oregon mine.

Martin Marietta Corp. operated the Oregon sand mine in the late-CB&Q and early BN eras. It sold the operation to Unimin in 1983.

I know this was probably mentioned at one time or another, but what was the name of the big silica sand company in Oregon, Il in the late 60's and into the BN era?
The sand mine is currently operated by a company named "Unimin".
