I compiled the following paint scheme data from the writings of Bill Welch.
1942-1948 Original Scheme
Yellow sides
Brown ends, roofs, and door kick plates
Black side sills, sill steps, trucks and side hardware
1942-43 car had no dimensional data
1944- dimensional data present
1949-1950 Transitional Scheme
Yellow sides including ladders and hardware
Brown ends, roof, side sills, and door kick plates
Black sill steps and trucks
1951- Simplified Scheme
Yellow sides, side sills, ladders and side hardware
Brown ends
Brown, Yellow, or Aluminum roofs (aluminum predominated)

Modified a plastic HO scale model. And it has a silver roof thanks to you.

In climbing up and down on 7,000+ associated cars BRE/WFE/FGE and National Car Co. I never saw anything but silver roofs
both wood and steel sided cars.
