[CBQ] GP9 Use of Headlights

I recently purchased a CB&Q GP9 with four vertical lights on the top of the nose both front and rear.  I am going to install a decoder and would like to know which lights should be wired individually or in combination.  In looking at Holck's Burlington Route Vol. 1, the second light appears red and the others (1,3 and 4) appear to be clear.  Under normal running, which lights would be illuminated?  Under what conditions would different light combinations be illuminated?  I would appreciate any assistance with these operations.  Thank you.
