Hi Bill, I've been reading A History of the CB&Q Illinois Pea Vine by R.W. Linroth. On page 59, he writes: was called "the Dolly" in honor of Dolly Varden Odell who was a popular entertainer during the 1860's. She was known for her elaborate hats and dresses.
