Bill, Look at the writing that was placed on the negative prior to the original post car being printed. Dave From: CBQ@groups.io <CBQ@groups.io> On Behalf Of Bill Ewinger via Groups.Io Sent: Monday, March 16, 2020 9:49 AM To: CBQ@groups.io Subject: Re: [CBQ] Around Burlington: Dolly was a dependable step... how can you tell this is the Dolly and not just the train going to and from New Boston? It was called the Dolly well before the advent of gas-electric motor cars; witness the three postcard views from 1909 recently for sale on eBay.
This is one of the BIG problems with trying to write. Inadequate research. The Civil War ended in April 1865 The alignment charts show the line north from Gladstone (Happy Rock) not built till 1869 (Removed 2-1952) So this is all Railroad Fiction. But try and get it corrected is a job and a half as everyone now looks at this as FACT The Dolly got its name because it was a gas-electric run bringing the mail and express to the small towns off the Main Lines of the Q. Trying to get History close to fact On Sunday, March 15, 2020, 01:41:21 PM EDT, Charlie Vlk <cvlk@comcast.net> wrote: Tom and All While a history of “the Dolly” would be interesting this link ain’t it. Says the train started in 1868 and then goes on to say it reached its peak in the Civil War. Also talked about the engineer’s uniform. Local historical societies sometimes print dribble.
