Here is 9257 in Creston in 1964. Dad, Raymond Lischer  was an engineer in the Creston Division for many years and ran the North Branch a lot in the early 1960s. This is a photo from my family collection.

It's not and SW1 or an NW1; it's an SW from Q series 9130-9135, equipped with a six-cylinder Winton engine and in appearance much like the Q's two NW1s, 9200-9201.  Attached view of 9134 at Omaha in 1958 and 9200 Western Ave. in Chicago in 1948.  Between January and Une 1958 the 9131, 9132, 9133 and 9135 were assigned to the Galesburg-Ottumwa-Creston Division, while 9130 and 9134 were assigned to the Hannibal Division.  9134 moved to Omaha in July and 9132 to St. Joseph in October.  I have a slide of 9130 at Fort Madison in 1964 and I photographed 9132 at Burlington in 1963  9200-9201 were always assigned to Chicago yard service.

SW1’s did not have the three vents on the engine hood, I’m pretty sue it’s a NW1

Doug,

My guess is an SW-1 due to the location of the bell, class lights and if you look closely, the two gentlemen on the left are standing on the sand box of the unit.

Can anyone help identify this engine? Believe it is a EMD NW1. Can’t see the number. Photo was taken in Indianola IA in 1958. Indianola was at the end of a branch that came out of Chariton IA.
