James:  You are totally right on about McGee.  I had one of McGee's disciples tell me that the reason the observation cars came off the North Coast Limited was so new NP president Lou Menk could place his business car at the end of the train instead.  And he knew this because Warren McGee said so.  And, incidentally, other considerations, such as a general decline in passenger train patronage nationwide, would not be entertained.  In the end, the anti-railroad atmosphere McGee helped create did much harm to railroad workers in Montana, so it's best just to consider his legacy as a photographer.
