Rupert,

I have about 8 of these from various years in the 1950s and 1960s. It's been my impression from looking at the CB&Q listings of each that they only showed equipment the CB&Q was willing to allow to go on other lines for one-time or temporary use. My thinking is except in off-peak times, the railroad was always short Budd lightweight cars and had no interest in other railroads making solicitations for use of this equipment. This shortage has been documented many times in CB&Q correspondence from the passenger department.

However, they were more than happy to have heavyweight cars and baggage cars go off-line to earn revenue.

I’ve just received the CB&Q pages from the 1963 Official Register of Passenger Train Equipment, the equivalent of the ORER.

Although it seems to list most passenger-related equipment including baggage, mail and express equipment, it doesn’t include sleepers. Any suggestions why they were omitted?

If anyone has copies of other ORPTE’s or can help with the ORER’s listed below, I’d be very grateful to obtain copies of the Burlington, etc. pages.
