There was a discussion last September about the Comet. I have found the following in Railway Age 29 March 1930 volume 88 -

The Chicago, Burlington & Quincy and the Northern Pacific have changed the name of “The Comet” which operates between Chicago and Settle, Washington, to “The Alaskan”, the name Comet being retained for the Yellowstone National Park train which is run from Chicago during the Park season. Because of the increase of nation-wide interest in Alaska, “Alaskan” has been chosen as an appropriate name for a train operating between the middle-west and the Pacific Coast.
