Louis-

“Back in the Day” working for a large corporation had perks going deep down the pecking order that would be considered questionable today…..

….even at Illinois Bell, there is/was a house in Downers Grove or Western Springs owned by one of the building engineers I worked with that had brick that suspiciously matched a major building addition to one of the nearby telephone exchanges.

Louis,

Have you checked Google satellite views for images of your former Downers Grove house? It might show whether the patio, or for that matter, the house is still there. Like a lot of Chicago suburbs, DG has been going through a period of old traditional homes being purchased and then torn down to be replaced by “modern” oversize monstrosities that don’t even fit the lot or the neighborhood! What a sad and terrible job of revising  older zoning laws to accommodate new structures all in the name of money.
