Peter I might be able to help with some of the MSTL information you seek. Others will have to provide the CBQ answers.

I don’t have a M&StL locomotive roster for the time period you specified. The one I do have is for 1940 and shows no loco’s assigned to Monmouth. Photos I have show the following locomotives in Monmouth: #150 a 4-4-0, #173 a 4-4-0 both taken in 1915. #411 a 2-8-0, #435 a 2-8-0, #63 a 2-6-0 taken in 1929, #64 a 2-6-0, and #624 a 2-8-2. A photo of the MSTL roundhouse taken about 1936/7 shows 2-8-2s 629 & 612 in the roundhouse. And a 1934 photo of the roundhouse shows six engines: numbers visible are 627, 621, 468. So it would appear Mikados and Consolidations were the engines on hand, along with small switchers. The 500’s were Pacifics, used in passenger service. All passenger service was moved to Gas Electrics in 1935 and the pacifics pretty much retired.

A 1918 Timetable shows the following MSTL trains scheduled between Monmouth & Peoria.

1st Class 9/10 mail train and 19/20

2nd Class 94/95 Time Freight  42/43 local freight  96/97 time freight & 90 a stock freight

Between Oskaloosa and Monmouth

1st Class 9/10 mail

2nd Class 94/ 95 time freight 40/41 local freight 96/97 time freight & 90 Chicago stock

I do have some maps of Monmouth. I will send them off list.

Subject: [CBQ] Modeling Beginner Seeking Mentorship

I am embarking on a project to model The CB&Q and M&StL between the years 1910-+920. I want to develop a layout using the railway map of Monmouth, IL at that time. Right now, I only have a custom HO model of my Great Grandfather's G-1 0-6-0 #1307. But I have learned that engine was retired in the teens.

Please steer me to where I can find the following:

1) What CB&Q switcher ran switch with the M&StL in Monmouth, IL in after #1307 was retired?

2) Is there a resource to find out what engines J.D. Toal engineers for The CB&Q in Monmouth?

3) Which CB&Q freight engines regularly went through Monmouth between 1910-1920, what did they typically haul and to/from where?

4) Which M&StL freight engines regularly went through Monmouth between 1910-1920, what did they typically haul and to/from where?

5) Which CB&Q passenger
engines regularly went through Monmouth between 1910-1920, which cars did they typically pull and to/from where?

6) Where can I get views of The CB&Q and M&StL railway plans for 1910-1920 (to create a layout)?

7) Where should I look for photos of the Monmouth railroad scenery (the pottery, depot, Costello Tower, etc.)?

8) Do any replicas of Monmouth (see question above) exist?  If not, who creates custom buildings from photographs?

Unrelated to this layout:
1) Did The Pioneer Zephyr run through Monmouth during its historic Denver to Chicago run?

2) Did the Aelous evert go through Monmouth (I found a photograph of it in my Grandpa's CB&Q books.

Thank you in advance!
