  Since locomotive engineers were not uniformed employees, our recognition for service was presented to us in the form of lapel pins. Every five years if you were a member in good standing, you were presented with a new service pin. The union officers also had their own pins designating the office they held.

  This was recognition by the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers for time served, not the company.

  Years later the company started to send out a catalog to all employees that, depending on your years of service you got to choose what you wanted if you qualified.
