Thread-topic: [CBQ] CB&Q Boxcar Classes

Bill

Digging into my records, I see that XAP was still shown in the November 1966 ORER but had changed by the May 1967 ORER.

Looking at http://www.nakina.net/other/aartype.html it appears that the designations were changed in October 1966.

Rupert,

That is probably right. I just looked at my January 1966 and July 1966 ORERs and the cars are listed as AAR XAP. The next ORER I have is October 1968 and they are shown as AAR XP with a code A400. The A400 stood for 79'8" in length and over car.

XAP classes were changed to XML in about 1966, XAP-1 to XML-7, XAP-2 to XML-6/A/B/C, XAP-3 to XML-10.

I haven’t researched it but, looking at the codes in ORER’s, I think that the AAR changed the designations some time after August 1966. Perhaps these cars were no longer specifically for autoparts but for general freight.
