As FYI the ownership split described by Fred is still the dominate arrangement to this date.

Dave: The Q and the FW&D did not own any auto rack cars. They owned the racks (everything above the car floor) but not the flat cars. The flats were owned by Trailer Train and leased to the carriers. There was a list of the racks by rack number which was maintained by the mechanical dept. Generally speaking RTTX cars were flat deck trilevels, BTTX were bilevels, and KTTX were low deck trilevels. The primary manufacturer of the racks during this time was Whitehead and Kales in River Rouge, MI. Originally the flats were 87ft long but were replaced by 89ft cars. These were all "open" cars, no side screens, end doors, or roofs. Fred Crissey
Hi all, I’ve been tasked with determining what autorack cars (double and triple level) were owned by the CB&Q for the Plastic modeling page. Thanks in advance for your help! Dave Lotz
