That would be Zephyr #39 according to the BRHS Publication Index. Unfortunately, those who knew are no longer with us. Because the BE-1 troop kitchen conversions
were black on the bottom, and lacking information to the contrary, I’m going to paint the Pullman green XM-33s with black bottoms. The Allied trucks were black, about the only thing I can tell from a black and white photo, so it stands to reason the underframe
would also be black. And while the BE-1s had a black roof, the XM-33s had Pullman green roofs, sides, and ends. I sprayed the bodies with Scale Coat II Pullman Green today, and they really look good. Can’t wait to get the decals on, but then I have to allow
time for the Scale Coat II to cure first.

In the next ZEPHYR (which is due to the printer in the next week) is some
neat stuff on the 50' single door express boxcars. Number series is
#8500-8549. They were taken out of freight service in 1944-1945, painted
green with white lettering and equipped with steam lines. I even have a
picture of one that I got from Hol. It is in service between Kansas City
and St. Joe! And for the modelers the Proto 2000 car is the exact match.
Freight series was XM-33 built at Havelock in 1941 in series
#21300-21399. The best information available suggests that these
specific 50 cars were originally 21300-21349. Several lasted in express
service until late 1950s, with at least 6 still active in express service
in 1960. More to follow in the ZEPHYR.
