In the next ZEPHYR (which is due to the printer in the next week) is some
neat stuff on the 50' single door express boxcars. Number series is
#8500-8549. They were taken out of freight service in 1944-1945, painted
green with white lettering and equipped with steam lines. I even have a
picture of one that I got from Hol. It is in service between Kansas City
and St. Joe! And for the modelers the Proto 2000 car is the exact match.
Freight series was XM-33 built at Havelock in 1941 in series
#21300-21399. The best information available suggests that these
specific 50 cars were originally 21300-21349. Several lasted in express
service until late 1950s, with at least 6 still active in express service
in 1960. More to follow in the ZEPHYR.
