Very interesting on the GN car counts.  I would think that a portion of the MNS cars were routed GN-MNS-RI via Northfield.  The MNS sales folks paid a lot of attention to the GN and NP traffic.

Here is an example of the division of cars on GN eastbounds.  These totals are from consists of GN trains #2/88, #98, #82, and #1/88 out of Minot and #438 out of Breckenridge for Sunday 11/23/69:

90 loads - 39 empties for Willmar (mostly Sioux City cars)
24 - 0 grain for the Twin Cities elevators
33 - 0 for the Soo Line
63 - 13 for St. Paul (mostly east cars for CNW)
29 - 8 for the Milw
19 - 3 for CRIP
52 - 24 for CB&Q east (Chicago)
18 - 9 for GN Lyndale Yard
26 - 4 for CNW Cedar Lake
40 - 7 for MN&S
47 - 3 for CB&Q south and shorts
These numbers do not include GN eastbounds running via St. Cloud (2 or 3 each way) or from Duluth (2 trains).  Eastbounds out of Minot would have 11 or 12 blocks - very unusual today as most manifests today have only one to three blocks.

NP's traffic into the Twin Cities was similar with the CNW and CB&Q getting the most cars.  There eastbounds were not as well blocked and the then flat switched Northtown Yard had to do a lot of work with eastbounds.
