Scott - To help with your modeling project, I've inserted/attached an undated aerial view of the Q's yard in Savanna, IL. This image dates to the steam age. If you enlarge, looks like a Class O-2 or O-3 2-8-2 type being fired-up on a ready track near the
roundhouse:
Nicely laid-out yard where the Q split three ways, to Cicero, Galesburg via the Pea Vine and St. Paul. Q yard is to the right, Milwaukee yard to left. Q roundhouse is in the middle. I recall that we are looking towards downtown Savanna and the Mississippi
River in the far distance. Image was taken during a flood with water backing-up into the yard.
I'll leave it to Leo and other Group members to give you a more detailed tour of the Savanna Yard as they remember it. I think that by now BN or BNSF has lifted most of the yard tracks. Best Regards - Louis

Leo,
Was Savanna the crew change point for the eastbound trains going down the pea vine? Did the waycars for that route also swap out at Savanna. That will make my Savanna yard job a bit more interesting.
Thanks,
Scott Stearns
Assuming you're talking about under The Q and not BN/BNSF. Crews changed at Savanna and La Crosse. If you want to add another layer of authenticity don't forget to make the waycar changes at each point also. At Savanna this lasted until the very late 1960s
between Aurora crews and La Crosse crews. The Aurora men in the C&I pool were one of the last maybe the very last to agree to pooled waycars.

Hi everyone I am wondering if anyone knows the crew change points from St. Paul to Chicago. I am trying to replicate freight operations on my layout. Thanks!
