Ok Pete, now you've stirred up my memory(geez, what a surprise !?). Let me cogitate for a day or two and see if I can reconstruct the famous Tommy Neitzel, one man, double drop, which  he performed routinely on the lead back into Caterpillars Montgomery plant when the Earlville Turn came back from the west with everything on the wrong end of the train.
There's only a handful of us left who ever saw his performance. Myself,Charlie Volker, Bob Daurer and Bob Campbell (all BRHS members) are the only guys that I know still around to tell this factual tale.
This performance involved circus like acrobatics and Tommy took pride in doing so whenever the occasion presented itself. He always had a smile on his face despite whatever conditions were involved. He loved being a brakeman and chucked his Condrs rights to remain one. His performance would violate a book full of rules today. Talk about  three point contact and foot signs !

I'll probably need help from some of the above mentioned guys and to dig out my Caterpillar track diagram to make sure I get this right.

Leo..You will recall that I issued a disclaimer as to my weight guessing ability...I guess anything heavier than a newspaper would seem heavy when you are boosting it up above your head with one hand and hanging onto a grab iron with the other and maybe standing on one foot.

Probably get written up today for failing to maintain "3 point contact" which seems to be the  "violation of the day"

How about making a drop hanging on to a grab iron with one hand, the pin lifter with the other..one foot in the stirrup and giving a "foot sign" with the other...I remember well an old head brakeman showing me about a "foot  sign" and how to do it.

OH OH for the good old days.

Pete

Pete, et al,

I just came up from the basement where one of my pairs, of Q markers reside. I would have agreed with Pete's estimate of around 20-25 lbs for the weight of a marker but the scale shows 14 lbs. of course there is no oil in the pot.
