Following Leo's thinking, what I love is the propane (LPG) transfer facility! Was this for propane tanks for the dining cars? To the left of the small one story building is a large white propane tank.To the right are rows of what look to be 80-100 gallon propane tanks. Then there is the tall white unloading hose gantry just to the right of the building between the building and the rows of propane tanks.

It's hard to tell if the track the two boxcars are on extends all the way to the hose gantry. Can anyone confirm what this building is and whether propane came in via tank car or truck?

What I love about the photo is the background ! The commissary building and its supports fit just so between tracks. The equipment in 'C' yard and the Soo Line freight
House across the street. Very nice.

Thanks Louis for posting,

Glen/Steve - I can offer an attached/inserted image of "Q" E8 9976:

No 9976 at 14th Street coach yards, Chicago, IL, on April 23, 1970. I agree with Steve that mechanical details did change to some degree over its service life. Best Regards - Louis
