Greetings Gentlemen, I have enjoyed your posts. In July of 1951, the Kaw River flooded and inundated the ATSF transcon and the Argentine Yard. For several days all ATSF transcon trains, freight and passenger, were annulled. Deals were struck with the CB&Q and the Frisco and trains began to move again. Most over the Q. This lasted approximately two weeks, whilst the road bed dried out and repairs made. Possibly longer. I don't think the dispatchers on the McCook division got much sleep during this emergency. Hol --
The chump is stumped. I don't know, but an educated guess is ATSF Kansas City-Bucklin, Mo.-Q-Chicago, affording the most direct route resulting in the least amount of detour mileage. The Santa Fe employed the opposite route (ATSF Chicago-Bucklin; Q Bucklin-Kansas City) during 1951's three Kaw River floods in Kansas City/Argentine. Hi all,
I received this email from John Wegner 3 weeks ago and have not been able to answer it. If anyone
on the list has any ideas, I'm sure he would like to hear from you. When responding, do so to the CBQ group and to him at

The book "Kansas Curve" by Robert P. Olmsted has a photo of the eastbound California Zephyr at Lawrence, Kansas while detouring on the Union Pacific during the Iowa/Nebraska flooding of April 1952. I was wondering what route it took east of Kansas City.
The existing CB&Q KC-Chicago mainline, which at that time would have taken it thru Liberty and Cameron, MO? Does anyone have any info on this re-route, which supposedly lasted about a week in 1952. My N scale club meets in a building in Liberty next to what's
left of the former Burlington mainline.
