I was just reading my newly acquired copy of “The Rusty Dusty”, published this past summer about the Wenatchee & Oroville branch of the Great Northern.

 

This very topic was discussed.

 

Sidings for many industries were built at the extreme edge of the right of way, the industries proper located on property out side the right of way. Distance from the main to the siding depended on the width of the Right of Way, or if the the main was located closer to one side of the right of way than the other.

 

Whether this applied to situations on the CB&Q I’ll leave to others to discuss.
