Leo..Thanks for the mention of the "morning paper"...I once wrote a piece for our local Lincoln Railfan's Club Newsletter entitiled  "The Newspaper as Currency"...I think I'll do it again "for here"...Anybody who was around the railroad business in the heyday of the passenger train will understand the subject...and I suspect that things have not changed much today as the topic as mentioned here regarding newspapers would still apply to the Suburban Train operation no matter where. trains are running.

To add to Dennis' comments about the Zephyr diner at 14th st coach yard.
It was the spot for breakfast after backing a commuter train to the coach yard for the brakeman
And engine crew. The mechanical dept guys also frequented the place. The bus stopped right in
Front of the door so it was a quick yard back to CUS if you're had a job "uptown" to get to.
For those dead heads going back to Aurora the westbound 8:30(or thereabouts,depending on time period) stopped at the cross work between A,B and C yards for the ride back to Aurora,etc .

The food was typical of any diner. The staff never lacked for a morning paper as most of the
trainmen made one or more part of the tip they left.

Group - Does anyone remember or enjoyed a meal in the Burlington Diner at 4183 South Halsted in Chicago? I'm inserting and attaching a post card image of the diner:

<CBQAdBurlingtonDiner4183SouthHalstedChicagoIL1947.jpg>

The backside of the post card reads:

A Unique Place To Eat- The BURLINGTON DINER- An Original Burlington R.R. Diner- 4183 So. Halsted St.--Chicago, Ill.- * Famous For Good Food *- Serving Day and Night Since 1939- For Ladies and Gentlemen- Phone: Virginia 7-9078

Was this an actual retired Q dining car?  The post card image indicates the back end was open platform. Does this diner still exist? Is the location any where near the 14th Street Coach Yards?

Hopefully, some of our Chicago Land members can give us the history of this diner and the car it was in. Best Regards - Louis
