The International Amphitheatre, a large indoor stadium that housed national political conventions in the 50's and 60's, sporting events (Chicago Bulls, Chicago Packers, Loyola University basketball, midget racing cars, ice hockey (Chicago Cougars WHL) and concerts was located at 43rd Street and Halsted Street. This diner was two blocks north if the address is correct at Root Street and Halsted street. So the diner must have done a landmark business in it's heyday. The Amphiteatre was razed in 1999 so if the diner was still there that was probably the end of the line for it.
It was not near the 14th Street coach yard since that is at 1400 south on Canal Street and the the diner is at 4183 south Halsted Street so about 3.5 miles apart.
There was a brick and mortar "Zephyr Diner" at the 14th Street coach yard and Zephyr Pit along the east side of Canal Street frequented by CB&Q employees (as well as a "pub" on the west side below the Soo Line overhead freight house) about the length and width of a passenger car. But it was not a modified passenger car. This was razed when Metra rebuilt the Z-Pit and coach yard in the 80's.

Looking at my 1950 Chicago Terminal District map, this would have been near the Chicago Stock Yards. Somewhat south of the 14th Street Coach Yards. Looking at Google Maps, both sides of Halted at this location are currently vacant lots.
Based on location, this might have been popular with visitors or workers at the Stock Yards. The postcard shows the diner tucked up against a larger building. I would imagine both facilities have been gone for a good while.

Group - Does anyone remember or enjoyed a meal in the Burlington
Diner at 4183 South Halsted in Chicago? I'm inserting and attaching a post card
image of the diner:
The backside of the post card reads:
A Unique Place To Eat- The BURLINGTON DINER- An
Original Burlington R.R. Diner- 4183 So. Halsted St.--Chicago, Ill.- * Famous
For Good Food *- Serving Day and Night Since 1939- For Ladies and Gentlemen-
Phone: Virginia 7-9078
Was this an actual retired Q dining car?
The post card image indicates the back end was open platform. Does this diner
still exist? Is the location any where near the 14th Street Coach
Yards?
Hopefully, some of our Chicago Land members
can give us the history of this diner and the car it was in. Best Regards -
Louis
