Yes, it is the "man on the last car" rule. I know, at least one time, if that rule had have been followed, that there would have been a switchman in the graveyard!

Thanks John..I'm going to record for posterity your comment that I was right...Don't get that too often...also thanks for your confirmation re rule 907...I think Rule 908 was the one which stated that when you were shoving cars there had to be a man riding the head car???   Is that right..I've got a rule book, but It's downstairs and I don't have a trip down there scheduled right now.

You're right. When I answered, I wrote the first thing that popped into my head. I forgot about the old station signs. I guess it was a senior moment! And it was rule 907.

You are correct Leo...John didn't tell the whole story.

As I can't seem to locate either my rule book or Q standard sign book at the moment;I'm going strictly from memory. But my old memory says:

an S inside a diamond was the station notice board 1 mile out.
An S inside a circle was a spring switch.

Hi all,

Received a question and attached image to identify what this sign was for on the BRHS Facebook page this evening.

" I recently helped my mother move a sign that was located on an old CBQ route just East of Brashear, Missouri. The sign was on a tall cement post with a diamond shaped sign with the letter S painted in black. We are trying to find out what the S stands for. The track runs east/west so not sure if it stood for south. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you,"
