The Sunbeam was a 5 PM departure from Dallas southbound, so I think that is the train in the background here.  The Hustler left at 8 AM.  SP's night train between Houston and Dallas was The Owl, which didn't leave until 11 PM and usually didn't rate streamlined power.

Those streamlined T&NO/SP P-14 Pacifics lasted until 1953 on the Sunbeam:

Note the T&NO steam powered Hustler. (I say Hustler because the shadows appear long, and from the west; this view is towards the north. The Hustler was the night train as opposed to the day Sunbeam). Additionally, the T&NO received PAs in 1948; after that date, the train would have diesel power.

I’d say pre-1948.

Thanks!

Eelco,

No nose grabs yet, no E-5 plate on the side, and it still has the truck skirts.  Definitely prior to 1950.

Hi,

I am a dutch collector of railway photographs and recently I came across a few American pictures I couldn't resist buying. Eleven snapshots taken in (what I think) 1940's USA for a mere 14 dollars...

These pictures show CB&Q 9909 Silver Bullet at Dallas, but I'm not completely sure when. I say 1940's but if anyone could help me narrow that down...

The pictures can be seen here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/spoorwegarchief/albums/72157664118325919

Any help is much appreciated!

Eelco
