Jon,
Yes the line crossed the southern tip of Quinsippi Island. The Pier Restaurant is built on the east pier and and fake lighthouse is on top the west pier. The line continued across the island and was joined by the lower line (bay bridge) before crossing the mighty Mississippi on the old railroad bridge which was just south of the current one. Yes that's the Memorial Bridge ( built in the 30's I believe) in the background. Corrections welcome.

I agree.  The photo included with the newspaper article is fantastic.  I am, admittedly, not very well versed in the CB&Q, so I have a couple of questions about the photo.  I'm curious about the line coming in from the west that the passenger train is photographed on.  I see what appears to be a tree at the far right of the photo, in front of the rails just past the first span on the bridge.  Did the line run across the southern tip of Quinsippi island before crossing the main channel of the Mississippi river?  I would think the tree in question on the photo is on the island.

Looking at Google Earth, I'm guessing the crossing was just to the north of the current Bay Bridge.  The bridge in the background of the photo is the Quincy Memorial Bridge that becomes Maine St.  Do I have that correct?

Thanks all.

Jon
