Two other more major issues (in my opinion) with the new Athearn cars: 1. The new Athearn PS-2 2893 cu ft cars are numbered and painted as PS-2 3219 cu ft HC-3's. So it is actually the incorrect car. The 3219's are slightly taller than the 2893's. Per the April 1965 ORER: HC-2: 12'-2" to eaves; 13'-1" to top of running board; 13'-2" to extreme height HC-3: 12'-7" to eaves; 13'-8" to top of running board; 13'-6" to extreme height 2. The Athearn PS-2 2893 is the pre-1957 design, so correct for the CB&Q HC-2's which were built in 1954. The Walthers 2893 is the 1957+ design 2893 so not correct for the HC-2 but a closer match for the 1958 built HC-3's. If you look at the Athearn 2893 you will not it has two closely spaced smaller vertical ribs at each end. This is the pre-1957 design. If you check out the Walthers 2893 and prototype Q HC-3 photos you will notice a single rib at each end that matches the other ribs. So if you are willing to use a 2893 HC-2 as a stand-in for the slightly taller 3219 HC-3 the gray HC-3 paint scheme Walthers car (out of production for some time) is a better stand in anyway.
