Rupert - OK, then that means the two wood box cars and following passenger car consist were most likely an off-line troop train interchanged to the Q in Chicago. Thanks - Louis

The only CB&Q box cars I know of that were equipped for passenger service were XM-32 and XM-33 – no single sheathed ones.

Group - Here's one for Rupert. Note the attached image. What are Allied Cushion Trucks doing beneath two wood outside braced box cars shown tucked-in behind fast moving Class S-4 No. 3001 on what may be a troop or secondary passenger train at Clarendon Hills, IL, in 1945? I'm going to make the assumption that all equipment is Q, but if indeed a troop train, then the box and passenger cars may be from another road. 

 

I had always understood that only steel box cars were so equipped for use on fast passenger trains. After the War, Allied Cushion Trucks were applied to both way cars and, of course, Jeep express cars converted from troop carriers. But, was it common practice during the War to equip Q wood box cars along with steel ones? I'd appreciate your thoughts on this image. Best Regards - Louis
