Thank you for confirming that. I don't have the David Randall book, so I just started looking for photos of the original trains. I guess that I didn't look far enough for the 1956 DZ. All that I found was a photo of an as delivered Slumbercoach which had narrow diaphragms. I am surprised that the full width diaphragms lasted as look as they did considering maintenance issues. However, in the early 1950s the "continuous" appearance of the trains was still important.

Posted by:I checked the David Randall Budd red book and you are correct the 47 TCZ and 48/49 CZ equipment and even the 1952 KCZ and 1956 DZ equipment were delivered with full width diaphragms but I believe they did not stay on long. 1950 Budd -built commuter cars had narrow width versions as it appears was the case with the 1956 delivered Slumbercosches.
