So it wasn't rebuilt from the explosion into the 0-8-0?  What was the reason to do it later?  Roadworthy-ness?  Needed a switcher and that was a better candidate than a 2-8-2 that hadn't had an accident?

Cheers!

The 5020 was something of a nomad during its tenure as a 2-8-2.  Upon delivery in 1911 it was assigned to the Alliance Division, where it remained after its rebuilding from the 1913 boiler explosion.  By February 1923, however, it was assigned to the Omaha Division and was still there in January 1925.  In December 1925 it was assigned to the McCook Division and by June 1927 to the Wymore Division where it remained until its conversion into the sole class F-3 0-8-0.  Thereafter, until its scrapping in October 1939, it was assigned to the Beardstown Division and used at Centralia.

It was assigned to Centralia, Illinois for most of it's life as an F-3. It was a real oddball!
