It was SOP in Aurora,IL (birthplace of the Q), when asked where do you work or what do you do, to answer I work for the Q.

Thanks for this.  I often wondered if it was legitimate to refer to our beloved company as “the Q” or whether I was just being lazy!

It must have stopped in the mid-50's. I remember it being there but along about that time the PR department launched a campaign to get people to call it the "Burlington" and not the "Q". Our local agent was a "true believer" and insisted that he worked for the Burlington and not the Q!
