Here's another little "ditty" in praise of the Burlington which my Q buddy Jim Christen...who will never be on this list...came up with in the 1950's...

Those of us of the vintage of John Mitchell and me will remember the old  "love song"..  "PS I Love You"...."crooning" the lamentations of a  recently departed  (apparently via railroad..not death)   lover...one of the verses read..."Was it dusty on the train?"....Jim added the answer to this lover's question as follows..."OH NO I TOOK THE BURLINGTON"..Heavy accent on the last syllables of Burlington...ie TON.

Hows that for a little trivia from a mind stuffed with worthless material on a very cold and snowy Nebraska morning.

See what you stirred up Rupert....Keep up the good work..There's more to be had from your research than you ever thought possible.

Pete

Right ON Tim..I forgot about this one...It was, indeed, on freight bills...I don't remember what time period this notation was used...Anybody  know??

Some catch phrases from a 1913 rate card

"On time every day, is the Burlington way"
"Employes combine - to make service fine"
"Rigid inspection and block protection"
"There's comfort for you—on the C, B. & Q."
