Based on requests so far, I have three of the truck books left, so if you want one, let me know soon. Hol

Nelson and others: Years ago (back in the 1970s when I was publishing BN Annuals), I sold 8.5x11 3-hole-punched copies of 1930 Q freight car and truck diagram books. I had 100 of each Xeroxed, and the freight car books quickly sold out, but all these years later I still have a few of the truck books. The pages include dimensioned side elevations of each truck type and a listing of car classes and numbers (specific cars numbers being given for passenger cars) on which each truck type was used. There are 37 different passenger car trucks shown (including gas-electric motor car trucks), while the freight car trucks go only up to No. 53, one of the early AAR cast steel trucks of the design commonly called a Bettendorf truck (and in this instance actually manufactured by the Bettendorf Co.). Locomotive tender trucks are also shown. While I sold the reprints in black binders, I have long since run out of them, but for $10 each I will gladly sell the remaining sets of the truck book sheets to anyone with an interest. Bear in mind that the drawings only show trucks in use up to 1930, so there are no lightweight passenger car trucks shown. And there are fewer than 10 sets left, so first come, first served. This being a commercial listing of sorts, I probably should have waited until Friday to post it, but here it is. Hol

Duncan,
No, they aren’t right. I’ve scratchbuilt three Havelock cars, two BA-19A and one BA-19 in shadowline. I used Train Station Products 732-427 as the best match for Q 3-N and 3-N1 trucks. And to address Jonathan’s comment about truck drawings in Blick’s passenger car diagram book, the truck sideframes are not drawn. Only the wheelbase is shown with the wheels drawn as circles where the wheels are located. What I’m asking for is a cross-reference to Q passenger car truck classes like the one for Q freight car trucks, and nobody seems to have such a document. I'd be interested in whether any of the Walthers GSC trucks are right for the Havelock cars. I'm not sure exactly what you're asking, Nelson. Bill Glick's book of passenger car diagrams has good, large-scale drawings of all(?) the Q's passenger trucks, including all those you list. Since I haven't looked into this with much care, I'll be most interested in what other modelers say about the available choices.

The Q used their own identifiers for trucks. I have the freight car cross-index chart, but I don’t have one for passenger trucks. After some research, I need the following passenger car trucks (or close approximations) for my passenger car fleet: 3D, 5C, 5G, 5H, 5K, 5L, and 5M Is there a cross-index for Q numbers and Pullman numbers? Do any of the Walthers Pullman trucks come close to any of the Q trucks? Are there other commercial truck options for these Q trucks? I’ve tried photo matching, but many of the passenger car photos don’t show enough truck detail to be helpful. Nelson Moyer
