This photo was taken in March 1959, somewhere between  Creston and St. Joseph...The car behind the motor was a former motor car trailer used for transporting crews between the depot and RH at Creston. The occasion was a fan trip by the Iowa Chapter of NRHS..There are several other photos out there of this trip..this one may be at Savannah, MO...

Corbin was on this trip and some of his photos of the car and trailer at St. Joe are in several books...George Niles was also an the trip.

This eBay seller pirates every image he can lay his hands on and then sells poor quality duplicate slides or low res scan prints of them with no real idea of what or where they are.  This photo was actually taken in the late 1950s when the 9845 was in use on the run from Creston, Iowa, down to St. Joseph, Mo.  So, no, it's not in Montana.  But during the Depression the Q did indeed run a motor car all the way to Billings on the line from Lincoln and Alliance.  Motor cars 9767 and 9768 were used on the run, and here's a link to an Otto Perry view of 9768 and its single combine at the Billings depot:  http://cdm16079.contentdm.oclc.org/cdm/singleitem/collection/p15330coll22/id/63399/rec/2

There is a guy on eBay selling prints of Gas-Electric 9845. He says it is Billings, MT in 1957.

All the photos I have ever seen of the Q trains in Billings were E units with a heavyweight RPO and baggage and some coaches. Earlier trains might have had sleepers, etc., but my question is did the railroad ever run a doodlebug into Montana or is this photo mislabeled?

Thanks,
