>calculate all the different variations and mutations that could occur between five items It was not just the 5 hoses. There were 20 MU hose shut-off cocks on each unit (5 hoses, 4 corners) . Heaven help you if somebody left ONE of those open where the hoses were not connected. Worse yet was if one was PARTIALLY open. In the cabs there were also MU2A valves that had to be positioned for "Lead", "Trail 26", "Trail 24", "Trail 6" or Rotair valves under a cover plate in the cab floor. 24RL systems had several cocks, usually unmarked, that had to be positioned properly for lead, trail, cutout, pressure maintaining, etc. If for example you left one specific valve wrong you could do the air tests and it appeared everything was working ok. But then you start to pull and the brakepipe air starts to be drawn down from someplace? Turns out that one valve on a trailing unit also controlled the deadman pedal. Doing the air test you never left the independent brakes unapplied long enough for the deadman to time out. But when you started to pull and released the independents THEN it timed out and tried to set the air on you. Fun and games. __._,_.___ Posted by: runextra@gmail.com __,_._,___ |
