Not to rain on anyone's parade, but this image is anything but a new find.  In fact, it's the second photo in Burlington Bulletin No. 29 on 2-8-0s.  The original was in the possession of the Creston News-Advertiser when Bernard Corbin made a copy negative of it back in the 1970s.  I have that negative as part of the Corbin collection.  Obviously, it was subsequently donated to the Union County Historical Society.  The newspaper probably assumed it was taken at Creston, but I would have to agree that it seems more likely, from the background, that is is at Burlington.  These D-1s were purchased for service across Iowa, so either location is certainly possible, but I'm inclined to go with Burlington, based on the evidence in the photo.

Jan and List-

Great Photo!!!  Amazing what still can turn up when a bunch of people are looking and share their findings!!!   Thanks Art!!!!

According to several different roster sources. #348 was:

Built 6/80   Baldwin  Original CB&Q #348 Class D    2-8-0 20x24 cyl    Re# 1348    Reblt 1900 to G4 0-6-0 CB&Q #1606   Retired 4-13

Charlie Vlk

#348 was a D-1 class Baldwin locomotive, built in 1880. It was rebuilt in 1900
and renumbered 1348, unknown when scrapped.

Cheers!
