Thread-topic: | [CBQ] La Crosse WI |
Switching of the brewery, lumberyards etc. could be done from either direction up till about 1987'ish as I recall. At that time the north segment from Gillette Street to the 2nd Street area was removed. Access is now via the switch on the south end at milepost 295. Switching still active is the City Brewery (Heileman's) and a lumber yard along Green Bay Street. Notable is that the stick rail dating some from the early 1900's near the main has recently been replaced with new chunks of cwr. ------------------ Matt Carlson La Crosse, WI From: CBQ@yahoogroups.com [mailto:CBQ@yahoogroups.com] Sent: Friday, May 30, 2014 7:17 AM To: CB&Q Subject: RE: [CBQ] La Crosse WI List, Would the last through traffic to use the old line have been the remaining BN pass. trains in April 1971? As late as 1988, I have shots of a high-nose geep switching around the former depot, but surely by then just a stub of old line was left. Fred Ripley Columbus, OH I am trying to get a handle on the timeline of events involving the Q thru La Crosse WI. At one time the Q had a line that went thru downtown La Crosse; was this the original line, or was it built at the same time as the freight bypass east of town? If the freight bypass was built after the line thru downtown, when did this happen? And last but not least, when was the line thru downtown abandoned? |
