February 13, 2014 Charlie - The Standard Time whistle blow image you mention was taken in Creston, IA. I've seen copies of the image on the Web, but can't remember where..... May be a historical society in Creston or the library there has an original print, or knows who does. Worth a shot. Louis Zadnichek II Fairhope, AL In a message dated 2/13/2014 12:53:01 P.M. Central Standard Time, cvlk@comcast.net writes: Does anyone have a sharp copy of the famous photo of a lineup of CB&Q steam locomotives blowing their whistles at the time of the adoption of Standard Time? None of the copies I have seen are clear enough to be able to pick off engine numbers or discern classes, details, etc. Rupert, Hol and I are looking for photos of and trying to nail down details of the D1 and D2 classes, especially the two Wooten Firebox equipped D1 2-8-0s. I don’t think the 397 or 398 are in the photo but the thought occurred to me that I’ve never seen a caption describing the locomotives for this photo. Charlie Vlk |
