Playing with the contrast, the numbers "20xx" seem to appear on the tender, in which case it is a R-4 or R-5. Rupert Gamlen Auckland NZ _____ From: CBQ@yahoogroups.com [mailto:CBQ@yahoogroups.com] On Behalf Of LZadnichek@aol.com Sent: Friday, 14 February 2014 6:39 a.m. To: CBQ@yahoogroups.com Subject: Re: [CBQ] Thayer wreck photos February 13, 2014 Charlie - From the tender, could be a R Class engine. I fully agree, it's Thayer, Iowa. Louis Zadnichek II Fairhope, AL In a message dated 2/13/2014 11:17:12 A.M. Central Standard Time, cvlk@comcast.net writes: Rupert and all- The third of the Thayer wreck postcards with the steam crane lifting carcasses into a gondola confirms it was Thayer, IA..the locomotive in the photo (haven't tried to determine the number or class) is most definitely a Q engine. Unless the Q came in on another railroad to clean up its cars in the wreck (highly unlikely) it is Thayer IA on the CB&Q. Charlie Vlk |
