I think we're all agreed now that the scene of the derailment is indeed Thayer, 
Iowa.  Attached, with the seller's permission, are the best images I can 
produce from the eBay scans -- in case someone is interested in bidding on the 
four of them.

Charlie - From the tender, could be a R Class engine. I fully agree, it's 
Thayer, Iowa.

  into a gondola confirms it was Thayer, IA….the locomotive in the photo 
  (haven’t tried to determine the number or class) is most definitely a Q 
  engine.   Unless the Q came in on another railroad to clean up its 
  cars in the wreck (highly unlikely) it is Thayer IA on the 
  CB&Q.
