Sadly, this seems to not be limited to railfans, but almost anything rail related.  Ai have encountered it a lot in model railroading circles too.

One thing to keep in mind is that some people, me for one, were born after the BN merger and never had the chance to be a part of the living railroad.  Somehow though I found the Q and it is very special to me.  I have often wondered why some push away the next generation instead of pulling them in.
