Posted by:"Tom McKenna" traveler48195Pretty amazing - and the car looks to be in pretty decent condition - who knew it still existed!!! Imagine the cost of transporting that to Australia!!!! Makes one wonder how much other stuff there is floating around like
that! Thanks for sharing. Tom ----- Original Message ----- From: pmo77304@bigpond.net.au To: brasscollectors@yahoogroups.com Sent: Wednesday, January 08, 2014 5:34 AM Subject: [brasscollectors] Silver Star from the Genereral Pershing Zephyr There are lots of things I don't know about trains but it can be real fun some days finding out bits of information, especially when it relates to brass model trains. However, thought I'd share this item I learnt a few nights ago after cruising around the web: The Silver Star Café in Port Hedland, on the far North Western Coast of Australia, started life in 1939 as the Silver Star Observation/Parlour/Dining coach of the 'General Pershing Zephyr' Streamliner of the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Railroad. It was used on the Mt Newman Mines private railroad in Australia for over 25 years. They're the same group that used two of the Western Pacific's F-7s. When it first came to Australia it was named The Sundowner but since being refurbished into a café, has reverted to its original Silver Star. Fascinating. So just in case anybody else didn't know and gets curious, here's a link: http://www.silverstarcafe.com.au/ And further for whatever might or might not twerk your train appetite, PSC are planning on making an HO scale model of the General Pershing Zephyr. Cheers Phil Morrow.
