Some nites were smooth as silk but others were not worth writing home about. One nite on the Main Line (Aurora to Galesburg plus Bushnell to Beardstown) we were running detours account flooding along the K-Line(Mississippi River south of BN) and I had six headed out of Beardstown against eight head for Beardstown all in 40 miles After getting them all over the road I was about done and still had four hours to work.
But I have to admit I would not have traded jobs with you. Steve in SC From: "dhartman@mchsi.com" <dhartman@mchsi.com> To: CBQ yahoo <CBQ@yahoogroups.com> Sent: Thursday, November 21, 2013 6:17 PM Subject: Re: [CBQ] Train delays and cancelations
Steve, from my relatively uninformed perspective of Dispatchers from the right seat in a cab, I thought for you guys doing the East End it was like a frantic video game compared to the pace of dispatching other places. Subject: Re: [CBQ] Train delays and cancelations First problem is equipment to use. Second is Crews. Generally on the East End(Aurora to Chicago) we would just couple two trains together if Possible. Some times we would send techs to the train(if any around) or a RF man or TM. Biggest problem was the lack of understanding of the modern electronics in use on the locos.
It raised the stress level of the Dispatcher. But you had to be able to deal with it Spent almost 20 years on the East End over the years 74-09 Steve in SC From: "wscott@optonline.net" <wscott@optonline.net> To: CBQ@yahoogroups.com Sent: Wednesday, November 20, 2013 9:39 AM Subject: [CBQ] Train delays and cancelations I live on Long Island and get email updates from the LIRR. This morning I got these and a bunch of other messages: The 4:55AM train from Port Jefferson due Hunterspoint Ave at 6:37AM is being delayed at Carle Place [at around 6 am] due to equipment problems.
[That train was then canceled due to equipment problems at Carle Place.] Customers will be accommodated by the 6:25 AM from Hicksville due Penn at 7:11 AM, and the 6:19 from Hicksville due Penn at 6:58 AM. [The passengers could then transfer at Jamaica for trains to Hunterspoint Ave] [8:18am] A
rescue engine is assisting in moving the disabled train at Carle Place. My question is... Is it that difficult to get a rescue engine to the scene 15-20 minutes east of Jamaica, a major transfer point on the railroad? This disabled train caused 15-30 minute delays all across the North Shore branches during rush hour this morning. Bill Scott __._,_.___
