During the War, the Burlington didn't have any revenue service tank cars,
only Company Service ones, and didn't get any revenue tank cars until the
130000 series was built in 1965. However, ORER's in 1943-1945 were noted
"Note G - Cars in series 23000-2231601 are temporarily assigned to
commercial service and are on a mileage basis effective March 1 , 1943, as
covered by A.A.R. Circular No. T-117-L".
Series 230000-231601 was for Company Service tank cars of which the
Burlington had 300 in August 1943, down to 290 by May 1945.
As an aside, when all the tank cars were renumbered from the 15xxxx series
in 1938, four cars with steam coils were renumbered to 205272-205275 and
205290 but I don't know when the coils were removed (and they possibly
joined the 230xxx series). Can anyone provide a date for the removal of the
steam coils?

Subject: [CBQ] Oil on the Q in World War Two
All-
Another NPR report today on oil companies moving oil by rail as they can't
get the Keystone XL pipe line built had me thinking about the NP's dedicated
oil trains to support the war in the Pacific during WWII. Does anyone know
the details (or has an article been written) on dedicated oil trains on the
Q during WWII? Presume FWD-KC-Laurel, but anything is possible.
As an addendum to the above, the NP's tank car fleet was just about nil in
1940 (just a handful for company service). Does anyone know how many tank
cars the Q rostered in 1940 and then in 1945? With the War Production Board
clamping down on who got what for the duration, I would like to know if they
allocated any materials for tank car construction (as tankers were quickly
taken up in war service and withdrawn from coastal/Gulf public trade).
