I've found a 1875 map of the Burlington, Cedar Rapids & Minnesota at
http://www.davidrumsey.com/luna/servlet/detail/RUMSEY~8~1~22302~730048:Map-o
f-Louisa-County,-State-of-Iowa showing it passing through Wapello. The
following year, it became the BCR&N.

A 1901 map at
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burlington,_Cedar_Rapids_and_Northern_Railway
shows it as a stop between Burlington & Columbus Junction. The article
states that the B&NW was granted trackage rights from Burlington to
Mediapolis (the stop between Burlington & Wapello) in 1880.

I suspect that the person labelling the photo was perhaps unaware of the
difference between the CB&Q and BCR&N, especially as the CB&Q had been a
partial owner (with the CRI&P) of the BCR&N for 20 years of so since 1876.
Did the BCR&N have its own freight cars or did they use CB&Q/CRI&P during
this period.

New photo uploaded to Photos - Wapello, IA

In 2003 I found this image supposedly showing the CB&Q depot in Wapello,
Iowa. The image surfaced tonight after rolling around in the computer for 10
years.

Several of you have questioned the validity of the caption. A quick perusal
of the Baldwin history Vol 2 and the Overton books don't mention Wapello.
Neither make it so.

A local Louisa County museum member was skeptical until he saw the image.
I'm guessing track rights might have precipitated the caption.

I'd like hard proof if anyone has it. It would be a nice addition to their
museum if it is factual in some manner.

Thanks.
