Kenneth - The cattle were loaded to meet the schedule of the train. For
example carloads of livestock coming from St. Francis every Saturday
night were combined at Orleans with other shipments for a solid train to
market. It was common sense for the railroad to run a solid train of
empties out several days early considering the distance from say St.
Joseph to St. Francis than run several short trains to stations along
the line. Every effort was made to limit the confinement time from
loading to their destination. - Richard
