I'd say changes stemming from Caterpillar's Plant-With-A-Future (PWAF) plant modernization project of the late 1980s and early 1990s could have influenced a shift to more truck transportation. Btw, you mentioned inbound parts by RR...any details? I'm curious if Caterpillar sent boxcar loads of engines and transmissions from its P&PU-served East Peoria plant to Montgomery via CB&Q, at least in the early years of the facility. David P.
