They don't mess with me anymore :>) It sure makes a new conductor nervious
when you aren't stopping for the switch at West Caballo or the East end of the
Buckskin Siding though :>)
The guy I knew who got hit by the spring switch handle was Roy Reitenbaugh's
rear brakeman, Bud Jefferies. He's the only reason Roy survived in a waycar,
account nobody wanted to hurt Bud :>)
When the "helper links" were new, BoBo was shoving me up Whitetail, and they've
got a notice out that you aren't supposed to exceed 20MPH when cutting off.
Well, I figured that BoBo would be a stickler for the 20, so I want him to cut
off right at the top of the hill, so I won't have to hold it at 20 going down
through Whitetail. So, I called the Belle Ayr Helpers, go no answer, then
BoBo, and still got no answer. OK, BoBo, we're goin' for a ride. I think the
slack running in when he topped 8.2 woke him up, and I hear "beep, beep, beep,
beep", the radio code to pull the pin, and then the code again, when the helper
link finally got the pin. So, I can guarantee that the helper link works at
35MPH LOL Never heard a word out of BoBo, Roianne told me later that he had to
get talked back by 8.2, claimin' a failure on the helper link...she figured he
just went to sleep :>)
