Bill,  My old timetable shows New Truxton was located at Mile Post 78.7 meaning it was 78.7 miles from St Louis.  Camp Creek bridge was located at MP 77.66 or about one mile east of the depot as you mentioned.  In 1966  or there abouts, that bridge burned under the following scenario.  A westbound freight  had stopped just east of New Truxton when the crew noticed smoke about 30 cars behind the engine.  The head brakeman walked back and found a car with a blazing hot box sitting smack dab in the middle of the bridge.  He quickly uncoupled the burning car and attempted to pull it off the bridge.  As he turned to give a go ahead signal to the engineer, he was looking right in the face of said engineer who had decided to walk over and see what was going on.  Needless to say, before the fat little engineer could retreat to his cab, the bridge was on fire and subsequently lost.  Several of the cars that fell into the chasim are still there to this day or at least were there until the end of the line in the 1980s.  The farmer who owned the land had dragged some of the cars out of the creek and used them as storage or something.  I remember one of the cars was loaded with the long floresent tube lightbulbs.  The nosey engineer never lived down this embarrassing story and of course the CB&Q never heard this rendition either.  The bridgedeck had to be rebuil resulting in the High Line being out of service for quite a while.  Now I will never admit I said all this if some trainmaster comes knocking on my door.  I sure miss the old High Line.  Archie

Ken,

I can't thank you enough!!  While I had the info from the Corporate history, the link to the RR Gazette  article was priceless.  I had never seen the article and the photos were amazing.   The article answers several key questions we had about the construction and fills in some gaps for us as well as provides new information on the construction we never new existed.

Thanks to you our archives on the CB&Q are much better today than ever.  Camp Creek bridge was just east of the New
Truxton Station.

Thanks for taking your valuable time to help me out.  I extend my appreciation to you on behalf of our Warren County MO Historical Society !!
